Bronagh Corry
Hi there, my name is Bronagh Corry and I am a member of the Literacy Service since September 2016. Although my teaching career began as a Business Teacher, I came to Literacy via the Traveller Support Service and 12 years Learning Support in a post-primary school and I wouldn’t change any of it. The people I met and experiences I had make me the person I am today.
I have 3 teenagers at home so life is busy keeping everyone clothed and fed and I spend most weekends ferrying them about. The washing basket seems to be bottomless and I cannot keep the cupboards stocked, but I love it (most days)! We also have 2 dogs, a cat, and up to very recently a dwarf hamster. There isn’t much quiet time in the Corry household.
I am very lucky to have a mobile in Donegal so as soon as the brighter days appear you will find me walking the beach or reading in the shade. To relax I love to read but tend to listen to audiobooks more often these days. I took up Crocheting during lockdown – I started off with the basic kits so have made some cute blankets and little knick-knacks for family and friends. I didn’t realise how addictive crocheting is, but I find it very relaxing and mindful. I like to keep my mind busy, so also like doing jigsaws and love a bit of telly too.
Health & Wellbeing became a major focus in my life following a diagnosis of cancer almost 10 years ago. Since then I try to do what I can to look after my physical and mental health and wellbeing. I am now living with a secondary diagnosis since July 2019 so without sounding too cliché – every day is a gift. I am very blessed – I have a wonderful Oncology team looking after me, as a family we have benefited from the support of the NI Cancer Fund for Children, our local community and our family and friends. We just take things as they come. I am also really well looked after and supported by my colleagues and friends in the Literacy Service.
When the opportunity came up to become a Health & Wellbeing Champion I jumped at the chance - it is one of my favourite roles! I like to think I have a positive outlook on life and where possible promote the EA Health & Wellbeing Hub and all the wonderful resources news and events on offer. I always try to end my day with something from the TEAMs Viva Insights Wellbeing Dashboard – a 1 minute breather or the 3 minute focus.
Remember, self-care is not selfish, you cannot pour from an empty cup.
